Just had my block bored +2mm for my je 83mm turbo pistons.  Millenium technologies did the machining.  Its basically perfect.  I asked them to surface the block if it was not flat.  So when I got it back it was not machined.  Which is fine just means its flat, but the surface of it is not smooth its like raw aluminum.  Its not rough by any means but I also got my cylinder rebuilt and it required a surface machining.  It is smooth, like machined aluminum.  I called Millenium and asked about it and they said it shouldn't be a problem.  What do you guys think.  I'm just worried about head gasket sealing.  I took a couple of pics of my block, it's kind of hard to notice the difference between it and the cylinder head. I posted pics of the head as well.  Let me know what you guys think.  I would just like another opinion.

i would think it be ok do to the fact a gasket goes in there also. but is you feel the need to have then ask them to smooth it or go get soe 600 or 800 grit & a sanding block wide enough & spend 30 or 30 minutes to clean it up the way you would like it.

the block(jugs) is usually ground not machined
i used a 600 grit sand paper and a granite suface plate to get mine perfect
it is just a mater of measuring it to see how it is

Thanks for the info guys.  From what you've both said my juggies should be good to go.  Its smooth to the touch but not like glass.  Thanks again! thumbs  up

I like to finish mine with 600 wet& dry paper wet with crc or wd40 on a sheet of glass, doesn't take much to get a good finish but the first few passes usually show a lot of unevenness from a natural finish

Good advice I'll see if I can make any improvement on the surface.  The last thing I want is to blow the head gasket after all I've done.  Thanks fellas.  It's nice to get real answers instead of smart ass comments on other board.  thumbs  up

How about a brand new sharpening stone.  Would that work?  Its a little wider than the block and its flat as flat can be.

that might work if kept lubed and no specs pop up to cut lines in it

If you know anyone who is getting real granite countertops put in their kitchen, see if you can get the cutout from the sink when they get it cut. it makes a nice surface.

They etch the blocks to strip them. That gives the surface that finish. You will not have any gasket issues. You are running our studs, aren't you?

Yup.  I've not had any head gasket issues to report.  Knock on wood. laughing7
