Jeremy, The next event is this weekend at maxton, n.c. 70 miles east of charlotte. Tech. inspection is on friday the 27th. and we race on saturday and sunday. They also tech on saturday but if you can get it out of the way on friday its alot better, in case something comes up unexpected, you will have time to respond. For those that have never ran in an event at maxton you will have to do some "licensing runs". What they want you to do is to be able to look good riding your bike at speed, so they watch your start, thru the run and how well you control it slowing down. They also expect you to keep it at or close to the designated speed you are qualifiing at. I dont recall exactly what speed they start you out at but its something like 150, then 175 then 200. Its really not a big deal. They will have a rookie meeting and take you out onto the course and explain all the do's and dont's. Once you have did all of that and you are good to go then you get in line and wait your turn. Once on the starting grid the steward will give you and your bike a once over and you are ready. Since it is 1 mile you dont need to launch like you do at the drag strip. leave easy and get into your tuck right away. Depending on how much power you are putting down you may want to short shift 1st and 2nd. Pin the throttle and hang on, it is a riot. September is the next event at Maxton and Super Streetbike magazine is putting on an event there for the right to claim "fastest streetbike in america". That is always alot of fun. I am not sure how many classes there are but for sure there is turbo, nitrous and n/a. In October there is an event at the Texas Mile and Maxton all on the same weekend. At the Texas Mile there is going to be a shootout for money. How much will depend on how many enter ($100 a bike) right now we have 15 turbo bikes. If any of you can ever make 1 of these events you will find that everyone is friendly and very helpful. If you find yourself needing something, it seems people will line up to loan it to you. I drove 1500 miles by myself these last 2 days to get to Maxton, theres no money in it, only personal satisfaction. I cant possibly describe to you how it feels to run over 200 mph at these 2 tracks, it is the rush of a lifetime. charlie
